11th Annual KANSAS CITY FILMMAKERS JUBILEE and MOVING PICTURES MAGAZINE SHORT FILM CONTEST
In the Spotlight this week is the 11th Annual KANSAS CITY FILMMAKERS JUBILEE and MOVING PICTURES MAGAZINE SHORT FILM CONTEST. The Jubilee brings the independent film community together to enjoy a winning combination of cinema, jazz, and BBQ in the kickin' Midwest, while MPM takes winners to their event at Sundance, and puts them together with the movie professionals who make things happen.        11th ANNUAL KANSAS CITY FILMMAKERS JUBILEE

Held in the historic Westport district of Kansas City, the Filmmakers Jubilee creates a laid back environment for filmmakers to network, share insights and ideas, and celebrate cinema. Among the independent film champions attending and working at the 2007 festival are Tommy Pallotta (Producer, A SCANNER DARKLY) and John Sloss (Producer, LONESOME JIM.)

In 2006, the Jubilee initiated the CinemaJAZZ program to connect with Kansas City’s rich jazz heritage and to encourage new filmmakers inspired by jazz. Nightly jazz performances and distinguished receptions at local historic jazz hotspots enrich the musical mood. Filmmakers are encouraged to join in on many of the great jam sessions, making for quite the unique experience.

KC Jubilee prides itself on giving away great prizes and awards. In 2007, the Best Short Film will be awarded $5000, sponsored by Time Warner Cable. Prizes in other categories are valued at $1000, and include Kodak film stock, NewTek and Bauhaus animation software , and equipment rental and lab services. The real kicker is that the top CinemaJAZZ films will become part of the permanent collection of the American Jazz Museum and Mutual Musicians Foundation.
